If at birth, to each a task is given,
And to each a duty assigned,
Then work is but a stepping stone,
In the journey of life.
Work was made for men to do,
Not for men to toil in vain,
Yet work is a great leveler,
There is none high, none low;
All are children of the lord,
All are equal in god’s eyes.
Blessed is the work we do,
It demeans us not in other eyes,
There is dignity in labor,
There is dignity in work well done.
As in all things in life,
There is a time to labor, a time to rest;
Where desire and duty meet as one,
Upon that precipice I shall climb,
With but reason as my staff,
With but reason as my guide.
Our life is for god,
To do the work given by god,
Our happiness is in a job well done,
For the fruits, we should not labor.
